The Qld-based company said its new satellite phone service, Pivotel Iridium, joins its Pivotel Globalstar service and TracerTrak satellite monitoring device.
Pivotel said all the devices are designed to provide crucial communication tools for boaties.
With the closure of the CDMA network on April 28, off-shore boaties lost extended mobile phone coverage, said Pivotel, and the GSM and 3G networks won't be able to provide the same level of coverage.
Pivotel said its satellite-based mobile services use standard mobile numbers and operate like a cellular mobile phone. The company said satellite mobile call rates start from 30 cents per 30 seconds on the Pivot99 plan and making a call involves dialling the domestic STD or mobile number similar to a normal mobile phone.
Satellite phones retail from $1299 with call plans starting from $35 per month, while the minimum cost for the Pivot99 plan is $99.
