New safety app for iPhone

Multiple ways for boaties to keep in touch

Gone Boating, a new App available to Apple iPhone users, will make it safer for them to spend their time on the water. The App utilises the GPS, Google maps, the calendar and camera features of the iPhone.

Users will be able to record their departure, destination and waypoint information as well as enabling users to email or post a Twitter message containing their boat trip details and maps.

Users can also notify their family and friends if they decide to change their time or location details. They can also notify a safe return or that they have reached their destination.

Justine Kelly, the CEO of LBS Wireless, developer of the Gone Boating App, says it is easy to use and could save lives in the event of an emergency.

"Finding boats and people on the water can be extremely challenging, however the information and maps sent from this application may make the job of locating boats and missing persons easier and quicker," Kelly says.

The Gone Boating App is available for download from the App Store on iPhones for $US3.99.
