New Recruit To Promote Powerboats

Boating Victoria, the powerboating division of Yachting Victoria, has a new development manager to help promote its expanded 2006-07 events calendar

Boating Victoria chairman Kevin Ezard said the appointment of John Zammit, along with the new program, would build on the success of the Australia Day Motor Cruiser Rally, held last January. The event attracted more than 60 motorcruisers to Docklands.

New additions to the calendar include a Melbourne Cup Weekend, Motor Cruiser Rally at Docklands and an Easter 2007 social rally at Royal Geelong Yacht Club, in addition to the annual NavRally series.

“An important new initiative during these weekends is to incorporate training and education components for participants to enhance their boating skills, as part of our overall plan for improved safety in boating,” Ezard said.

One of Zammit’s first priorities is to meet with the many powerboat member clubs around Victoria to ensure they and their members are informed of the Boating Victoria initiatives.

“Our program of events is only part of the story,” Zammit said.

“There is much that we will be doing to represent the interests of powerboaters to government and to promote the benefits of boating to the community at large.”
