Mercury Diesel released a new 480hp, 500hp and 550hp 6.7L mid-range electronic-fuel-injected common-rail engine at Miami International Boat Show.
The new marine engine has been produced from the strategic partnership with global powertrain giant Fiat Powertrain Technologies (FPT) Industrial that harks back to 2015.
The engine is assembled at FPT’s dedicated marine engine plant in Milan, northern Italy, where the latest in quality controls have been embraced.
Boasting an overall production of more than 1.6 million engines since 2001 from its NEF series, FPT Industrial says its new 6.7 litre marine engine has been customised especially for Mercury Marine.
MERCURY CUSTOMISATIONS
The new Mercury Diesel engine is compatible with Mercury’s full suite of SmartCraft controls and electronics, including optional Joystick Piloting for Inboards and Joystick Piloting for Pods (Zeus).
"This is the first opportunity to provide our fully integrated ecosystem of technology and ease of boating features to our mid-range diesel customer," said David Foulkes, Vice President of Mercury Marine.
According to Mercury Marine, the new mid-range diesel family boasts outstanding acceleration and top speed performance combined with quiet and smooth operation.
The state-of-the art engine control system and electronic common-rail fuel injection technology are touted as providing low fuel consumption and therefore affordable operating costs and extended range.
"We want to be our customer’s first choice when it comes to selecting a power option," said Reinhard Burk, Mercury Marine Senior Director of Diesel & Propulsion Strategy.
"Expanding into the mid-range diesel market offers Mercury the opportunity to deliver on our brand promise to customers in this premium boat segment.
"With this new offering, the consumer isn’t just adopting Mercury’s diesel engine, but will have access to our entire range of SmartCraft features, support and most importantly our service network."
