New Mercury 2.0-litre diesels

Mercury Diesel’s engine offering has expanded even further, with the release of new 150hp and 170hp variants of its proven 2.0-litre Inline-four platform.

Mercury says that the engines are reliable, compact and truly robust, and are perfect for both recreational and light-commercial applications. They are available as both inboards and sterndrives, and are fully compatible with Mercury’s DTS (Digital Throttle & Shift) technology.

“These Inline-four diesels are great engines,” said Mercury Director David Meehan.

“The new 150hp and 170hp Tier 3 models both boast variable geometry turbo (VGT) technology which provides peak torque at 2000rpm, so turbo-lag virtually disappears, your boat gets to plane faster and drivers enjoy outstanding operating characteristics.”

Powerful and compact, the new engines are only 80cms long and 71cms wide so they can fit in virtually any installation. Producing only 68 decibels they are quieter than a normal conversation, we’re told, and a closed cooling system increases engine longevity by keeping corrosion at bay.

The new engines are built on the same well-proven 2.0-litre Inline-four platform as Mercury Diesel’s existing 115hp and 130hp models.

All offer the latest common-rail fuel injection technology and are fully Mercury SmartCraft-compatible, so boaters can access dozens of engine, boat and navigation functions through Mercury’s extensive selection of SmartCraft digital gauges and optional multi-function displays.

“These new larger 150hp and 170hp variants mean Mercury Diesel now has engines which meet the stringent Tier 3 emission standards all the way from 115hp to 370hp,” David said.
