New Lowrance auto-tuning Hook2 Fishfinder/Chartplotter series

A new auto-tune depth sounder and chartplotter perfect for tinnies and trailerboats costing from $129

Lowrance has released a new Hook2 series of fishfinders/chartplotters starting at $129 for a 4in sonar-only model and ranging up to $2149 for a 12in set with the works including chartplotter. Besides affordability, the new series claims to be the "world’s easiest-to-use fishfinder/chartplotter."

Using Lowrance Autotuning, the Hook2 sonars have been designed to actively correct the settings for the clearest underwater view possible on each unit. The idea is to allow anglers more time for fishing and less time making manual adjustments to tune their sets.

Most models also feature full navigational capability and high-detail mapping via pre-loaded C-Map cartography. Only the base sonar-only 4in model misses out on GPS.

But Lowrance says don’t mistake affordability and ease of use for a lack of performance.

The electronics giant says anglers can cover more water in less time with 2X wider sonar coverage using the new Lowrance wide-angle Broadband Sounder and CHIRP sonar.

SideScan and DownScan on select models add life-like image viewing of fishing-holding structure to both sides and below the boat.

The new Hook2 series will be available in three easy-to-install, value-priced sonar categories: 3-in-1 sonar with High Chirp, SideScan and DownScan imaging; 2-in-1 sonar with High Chirp and DownScan imaging; and proven Broadband Sounder, respectively known as TripleShot, SplitShot and Bullet.

The new Bullet 4-inch base model is an interesting sonar. The set has a wide-screen design, providing additional detailed sonar history versus a traditional narrow and vertical 4in display model. At $129, it would be good for kayaks and tinnies.

Hook2 fishfinder/chartplotters will be offered all the way from the 12in, 9in, and 7in to a 5in display.

With the exception of the sonar-only Hook2 4x Bullet, all remaining models have a built-in GPS Plotter (without charts) for saving waypoints, following trails and navigating to favourite fishing spots.

Leif Ottosson, CEO of Navico, said the goal with Hook2 was to capture the spirit of the Lowrance customer who values enhanced sonar and imaging, simple controls and clear displays – all at an extremely competitive price.

"From Autotuning sonar settings, wide-angle sonar with double the coverage of most fishfinders and the easiest-to-use, push-button design, Hook2 combines powerful performance and simplicity into a fishfinder every angler will love."

Ranging in price from $129 for the 4x model to $2149 for the 12. The new Hook2 units are expected to be available in late 2017.
