New Zealand-based alloy boat brand Surtees has rolled out a number of significant updates to the Surtees 495 workmate, including a longer waterline for its hull.
The entry-level cuddy cab boat keeps its 4950mm overall length, but extends its waterline underneath the boarding platform by 100mm to now measure 4.1 metres.
It also switches to a new Portofino-styled stern replacing the more upright one – matching the rest of the six-model Workmate range.
Also tweaked for 2021 are updated grab rails; a new bow rail giving more room for a Sacra-style anchor on the bow; a redesigned bait board featuring four rod holders instead of just three and a tackle drawer; and a matching black hatch for the battery box.
Surtees has also had a rethink of the Surtees 495 Workmate’s dash, which now sports a blacked-out fascia with enough room to flush-mount the latest in large touchscreen navigation/fishfinding units.
“The 495 Workmate is an outstanding option for those looking for a highly capable, quality alloy fishing boat under five meters,” Surtees said.
“They are a great first boat, and are also well-suited for those looking to downsize.
“With proven Surtees performance combined with easy handling and towing, as well as a small storage footprint, the 495 has earned itself a cult status.”
Testing with a Yamaha F60 outboard engine – the most popular choice for this size of boat – is claimed to have increased the boat’s top speed to more than 30 knots.
Surtees boats are available in Australia via dealers including Melbourne’s MY Marine, Sydney-based Watersports Marine and Brisbane’s Northside Marine.
