New-look Mercury 250 XS and 300 XS outboards

Mercury Racing has released a bold new look for its 250 XS and 300 XS outboards

The Mercury Racing 250 XS and 300 XS outboards have received a facelift. New louder graphics emphasise their horsepower ratings and the fact these engines come from the hot Mercury Racing stable where performance is everything.

By combining high power and torque with light weight, the 250 XS and 300 XS engines popular engines with racing enthusiasts around the world and, adds Mercury, also ideal for repowering older performance boats.

250 XS
The 250 XS, a low-emissions two-stroke outboard, is said to be a game changer from the moment it was released. Mercury Racing says this everygreen race outboard outperforms competitive 250hp engines in a variety of categories such as fuel economy, mid-range acceleration, and top speed.

Designed for lighter weight hulls, capable of speeds in excess of 135km/h (85 mph), the exclusive Sport Master gearcase features a crescent leading-edge housing with low water pickups. This enables the 250 XS to run at elevated transom heights for maximum engine rpm, hydrodynamic efficiency and top-end speeds.

300 XS
Available with 20in, 25in and 30in mid-sections, the 300 XS has big performance claims but they aren't confined to ski boats. A custom designed exhaust adapter plate, with built-in appendages for mounting after-market steering wing plates, enables the 300 XS to be used safely on high-speed multi-engine catamarans and vee-bottom boats as well.

Offshore models come standard with a heavy-duty swivel/clamp bracket assembly and trim cylinder. The race-proven remote mounted trim pump is said to provide a quicker trim-out speed and enhanced durability.

GEARCASE OPTIONS
Mercury Racing has plenty of gearcase options available for virtually any application using the 250 XS and 300 XS. Models fitted with the 20in mid-section are available with the Torque Master II and Sport Master gearcases with purpose-built housings and race-proven heavy-duty components.

Offshore models, designed to withstand the rigours of the tough saltwater environment, come standard with a heavy-duty swivel clamp bracket assembly and the 1.75:1 Verado 4.8 gearcase.

The Torque Master II is available with a 1.75:1 gear ratio and Sport Master gearcases are available with 1.62:1 or 1.75:1 gear ratios. The Torque Master II, designed for single engine applications, is available in right-hand rotation only.

New for the 2017 program year is the adaptation of the 1.75:1, Verado 4.8 gearcase. The gearcase, standard on 25in and 30in offshore models, is designed for saltwater. The 300 XS models fitted with Verado gearcases are available in right-hand and left-hand rotation.

PERFORMANCE PROPS
Mercury has designed a range of propellers specifically for Mercury Racing 250 XS and 300 XS applications. Popular performance props include the Pro Max, Lightning E.T., Bravo I XS, Bravo I OC.

Both the 250 XS and 300 XS are backed with a two-year standard factory warranty. More at
