New Kawasaki Jet Ski SX-R is world’s fastest production stand-up

Twice as powerful as its predecessor, the all-new Jet Ski SX-R has arrived in Australia

Available on the Australian market now, Kawasaki's new Jet Ski SX-R is twice as powerful as its predecessor for a 25 per cent faster top speed.

The personal watercraft pioneer and Jet Ski inventor says its mission is to redefine the standard for the stand-up by offering more power from the latest four-stroke engine while adding improved handling from a bigger fibreglass V-hull.

With styling that’s aggressive and sporty, the new Jet Ski SX-R hopes to create a new generation of stand-up riders — the original Kawasaki Jet Ski dates back to 1976 — chasing big performance and/or a hot new platform for competitive racing.

FOUR STROKE ENGINE
The new Jet Ski SX-R is powered by a DOHC 1.5lt four-stroke in-line four-cylinder engine that generates twice as much power as its two-stroke predecessor, the 800 SX-R.

Maximum power is 160hp/118kW at 7500rpm, while the weight of the GRP ski hull with injection-moulded sponsons and the four-stroke engine is 250kg.

Electronic fuel injection and a high-RPM jet pump contribute to the SX-R’s impressive acceleration and top speed. The fuel tank is 23lt, up from 17lt previously.

TIGHTER CORNERING
A newly designed hull with aft sponsons has been designed for rider-active handling, sharp turning and superb stability, Kawasaki says, offering riders the choice of making deeply banked turns or cornering using less lean angle.

Either way, the combination of increased stability and more power allow the Jet Ski SX-R to corner at greater speed than its predecessor, making it a hot ski for slalom courses and competitive racing.

BIGGER HULL
The larger deck with wider floor area — the fibreglass V-hull is 355mm longer and 35mm wider than the old 800 — provides greater freedom of movement and optimum grip. A cool new Kawasaki Splash Deflector (KSD) reduces splash.

In the 2017 ebony/jet white colour combo, the new SX-R has edgy styling that evokes the highly successful heritage of Kawasaki Jet Ski. MX-style handlebars add to the sporty look.

The RRP is $14,499 (excluding on-water cost). Available now through Kawasaki dealerships.
