New Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 349

Recently released at the Paris Boat Show is the latest from Jeanneau, the Sun Odyssey 349.

Jeanneau says that the 349 is true to the values of the Sun Odyssey line, being “the perfect combination of performance, comfort and safety at sea”.

“Whether in the cockpit or at the helm, at anchorage or at sea, you will enjoy taking full advantage of this seaworthy, stable and easy-to handle sailboat,” says the manufacturer.

The 349 offers either a two or three cabin layout, a spacious saloon and a very functional galley, the Sun Odyssey offers all the features of a big yacht but with the convenience and ease of handling of a 34 footer.

The 349 has a modern chined hull by Marc Lombard to maximise performance, stability and interior volume. Outside there’s a comfortable cockpit that’s set up for short-handed sailing. Twin wheels and rudders are standard and the boat is available with a standard fin keel with a draft of 1.98 metres or a shoal draft version is available with a draft of 1.49 metres. We also understand that a lift-keel version is on the drawing board.

The rig of the 349 is another interesting aspect of the boat. The mast is a two-spreader affair with the spreaders swept back 30 degrees. This negates the need for a backstay so the boat can be optioned with a high-performance square-topped main.

The 349 also features a hinged transom for easy access on and off the boat, into the dinghy or for swimming.

According to Rohan Veal from 38 South Boat Sales, the base boat delivered to Melbourne is just under $200,000, however 38 South is prepared to offer the first boat delivered and commissioned in Melbourne for a special price of $185,000.
