Fjord has released the new 42 Open, an IPS-powered uber-luxe flagship that heads its unique open-dayboat range. Designed by Patrick Banfield, this new release from the German marque is a sporty,
multifunctional boat with a striking hull and a flat deck layout.
Pitched at the outdoor and weekend
boater, the 420 Open has a raft of neat features, starting with the large bathing platform that can be lowered hydraulically and used for a dinghy and personal access to the water.
The concealed self-stow anchor can be raised hydraulically at the push of a button, while the new T-Top boasts an electrically retractable soft-top bimini that partly shades the rear cockpit when lunching.
The deck layout offers two large sunbathing areas — at the bow and at the stern — while the cockpit has an outdoor 'galley' under the T-Top and seating area that converts into another sundeck. At night, indirect lighting sets the mood.
Below decks, the master cabin, contains a large island bed, abundant storage space, as well as amenities such as TV and a Fusion sound system. A second cabin with twin beds accommodates the guests or family.
Underway, the twin Volvo Penta IPS500 engines with 370hp, or optional
IPS600s with 435hp, whisk the Fjord to top speeds of 34-40 knots, while
the innovative dashboard can fit two 16in Raymarine displays within
reach of all three sport helm seats.
The new Fjord 42 Open is celebrating its world premiere at the Monaco Yacht Show from September 28 to October 1.
Owned by the HanseGroup, Fjord is avant garde German boat brand known for its cutting-edge design.
"Be unique" is the marque's catchphrase.
Yet despite its overtly European heritage and design lines, open-bow boats like this have been
stirring interest with local boaters looking for a stylish runabout,
upmarket commuter and social conveyance, often to complement their yacht.
Fjord is represented by eyachts in Australia.
