Alan Paterson, who formally managed the distribution of Princess Yachts in Australia and New Zealand for Riviera, has been appointed the MD of the newly formed Princess Yachts Australia.
The new dealership has opened a waterfront office overlooking the marina at Hope Island Resort in Queensland and has already placed a $12 million order for three large boats.
Backed by Sydney businessman and solicitor John Barbouttis and a group of silent partners with extensive boating experience, Princess Yachts Australia will soon open offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland.
"When Princess Yachts in the UK and Riviera came to an amicable decision to go their separate ways, I was engaged by Princess Yachts International to help find and establish a new distributor for Australia nd New Zealand," Paterson says.
"There were several high profile and high quality contenders that we spoke to, but with John and his partners heavily involved in the marine industry they became a natural fit."
Paterson says Barbouttis already owns a Princess yacht. "The deal was finalised and I was appointed dealer principal," he says.
Paterson says the new company picked the Gold Coast for its first office because there were already 20 existing Princess owners in the area.
Scott Davis, a 25 year marine industry veteran, and Andy and Louise Clayton have joined the new team.
Paterson says Princess is aggressively pushing into new markets internationally and has developed a new range of models ranging from a V42 sports yacht to a 130 foot M-class tri-deck yacht. Princess Yachts Australia has ordered a V52 (pictured), a V62 and a V85, the first of which should arrive mid way through 2010. The prices of the luxury boats will range from $1.5 million to $8.5m.
The V85 will be the first 80 foot plus to be sold new in Australia.
Paterson says the group also runs a charter company in Athens and its range of vessels can be booked through the Hope Island office. More details on the range of boats can be found at the Princess website.
