Thirty-years ago, the Dehler 34 was launched and the yachtmaker quickly achieved recognition as a global player in the sailing world. With more than 1300 built, this was the beginning of a new era for the German company.
The Dehler 34 shaped the company's DNA and, says Dehler, revolutionised the global yacht market with the first real Performance Cruiser. The clever combination of sportiness and cruising, convinced would-be yacht owners and the Dehler 34 achieved cult status.
So how better to celebrate the 30th anniversary of this legend than to revive the Dehler 34?
DEHLER 34 UNVEILED
The German yacht builder has just unveiled its newest creation: a modern yacht with fast lines and confident appearance. The new Dehler 34!
The yacht was designed by the renowned yacht designer Judel/Vrolijk & co, who are known for fast and agile yachts with modern design. As with all Dehler yachts, the sporty sailing characteristics play a pivotal role. The steep stem in combination with the short overhang in stern creates a long water line and allows maximum speeds.
Karl Dehler, chief developer of Dehler, is clearly excited about the new yacht: "The new Dehler 34 is a masterpiece. She was developed as a luxurious performance cruiser, with an incredible amount of space, headroom and tank volume. Performance oriented sailors can upgrade the 34 with everything — and I mean absolutely everything — that leads to more performance.
CARBON CAGE
Even the standard version of the Dehler is reinforced with the Dehler Carbon Cage, creating the perfect foundation for further upgrades. The Carbon Cage is designed to provide 20 per cent more rigidity and enable better upwind sailing performance.
If you want a quick cruiser or even a competitive regatta yacht, the Dehler 34 can answer both duties.
In the exterior design, the new Dehler 34 has fast and elegant lines that correspond to the modern look of the larger Dehler yachts.
Two slim, tapered side windows give the yacht a streamlined touch and enable a bright interior. The low and wide cockpit enhances the sporty look and offers plenty of space for the family or crew while active sailing at sea.
INTERIOR LAYOUT
The interior features two large cabins and a comfortable head, which is equipped with Dehler's Uni-Door Concept, which is one door separating three areas to provide maximum privacy within the yacht's limited space.
The salon offers two comfortable sofas, a spacious L-pantry and a navigation table.
In the bow the customer can choose between two layout variations. As standard, the Dehler 34 has a closed bow with a door; the option is an open bulkhead, which creates more space.
Those who want to make their Dehler 34 lighter can order lightweight furniture for the bow and aft cabin. Either way, the flowing interior combined with an elegant finish are said to create a modern-designed interior, says Dehler.
RIG OPTIONS
The new Dehler 34 comes with a well-balanced aluminium rig with a sail area (mainsail and jib) of 65sq m. As an option, Dehler offers a higher rig in aluminium or carbon for more performance. The carbon mast is 73cm higher than the standard rig and flies a sail area of 71sq m.
In addition, the Dehler 34 can be fitted with all kinds of extras, such as a bathing platform and a fixed bow sprit. With such options, the new Dehler 34 can be configured to various customer needs.
