New Cobalt 30SC bowrider adopts big outboard power

The new flagship in Cobalt's outboard-powered range of boats is designed to "cruise in the upper 50s"

The third new Cobalt in the outboard-powered range — starting with the 23SC, the 25SC we reviewed with video, and now this flagship — the 30SC sportscruiser features an optimised hull especially for swinging twin 250-350hp engines to 50mph-plus.

Returning to offering outboard power options to meet market demands, the 2018-model 30SC is a new-age sportscruiser designed to combine the signature luxury of the Cobalt marque with the convenience, efficiency, and quiet operation of the latest sophisticated outboard engines.

Cobalt says its engineers completely redesigned the 30SC hull, which features 21-degrees of sharp deadrise and is hand-laid with Kevlar reinforcement, to accommodate serious outboard power in the twin 250-350hp range.

The result is said to be a sporty boat that is "especially quick out of the hole and easily able to cruise at speeds in the upper 50s (mph)."

Of course, the benefits of outboard power also extend to full leg trim clear of the water when moored and shallower draft for accessing beaches, sandbars and boltholes.

Getting around the outboards on the transom, the 30SC welcomes guests aboard with a new simple, safe side-boarding step.

Wet boarding is via Cobalt's patented swim platform, with below-the-waterline access and stainless-steel grips.

Storage has been boosted aboard and includes the huge aft hold where the sterndrive engines would otherwise be fitted. Fill it with wartertoys, fishing and dive gear, picnic stuff, even a barbecue for the beach.

Cobalt says the new 30SC has a new flexible seating in an entirely ergonomic cockpit, deeper and safer freeboard, a softer ride, and docking manoeuvrability with optional Mercury JPO Joystick or Yamaha SeaStar Optimus 360 Joystick.

The 30SC is a big bowrider with a step-down bathroom and a big suite of options including fridge and more comforts.
