New Chaparral models announced

Dealer conference lifts the lid on several new models and announces international awards

At the International Dealer of the Year awards in Key Largo, Florida recently, Chaparral announced the imminent release of several new models including the first new Chaparral outboard-powered boat to be offered by the company in 30 years. Also included were two new twin-engine Vortex jet boats and a new Robalo 246 Cayman Bay Boat.

Our spies tell us that the new outboard boat could well be the could well be the Chaparral 25. Keeping with the trend toward outboard powered boats, this is a big deck boat designed for social outings, families and tow sports. We are looking to bring you more on this boat next week.

On the Vortex jet boat side, the inside word is that the new top-of-the-line Vortex 243 VRX jet (pictured) rates as one of the finest sport boats ever introduced in Chaparral's 50 year history. The boat is that special, we're told. With twin-engine power, buyers can select from 300, 400 and 500-horsepower engine options. Can't wait for that one!

Celebrating Chaparral's 50th anniversary, over 300 dealers and delegates enjoyed the hospitality of the Ocean Reef Club resort while networking with fellow marine industry operators from around the world.

Apart from the new boat announcements, the highlight of the event was the much anticipated awards night, recognising sales achievement and customer service excellence. For the past three years, Chaparral Australia has taken the coveted number one award as International Dealer of the Year.

This year however, for the first time in four years, Chaparral Australia was pipped at the post by its British counterparts to become runners-up.

Scott O’Hare from Chaparral Australia said: "We knew it was going to be tight, we worked very hard to defend our title and bring home a fourth straight award, but full credit to the Pommies, they have had a big turnaround and deserved the win. One consolation was that one of our Victorian sales team, Sam Sulley, won international salesman of the year award, also a highly sought-after accolade," he said.

Mr O’Hare has issued a challenge to the Australian boat buying public to get behind Team Chaparral this year and: "let’s beat the pommies to regain the Chaparral Ashes," he said. He is offering a limited edition 'Chaparral Ashes' T-shirt with every boat sold and ensures us that he is ready to sharpen his pencil to make sure Australia regains the cup.
