Hornsby Shire Council has constructed a new boat ramp at Parsley Bay, giving our region’s water lovers far better access to the Hawkesbury River.
A new pontoon has also been added, which will significantly speed up the boat turnaround and reduce the waiting time. This is good news for one of Sydney's most popular boat ramps.
"The old ramp was in very poor condition and had reached the end of its useful life," Hornsby Shire Mayor Steve Russell said.
"The bottom part of the old ramp was damaged, with a number of holes that posed a significant safety risk.
"The ramp is now compliant with the top Australian guidelines."
The new ramp is two metres wider than the previous one and significantly longer, meaning boats can be safely launched even at the lowest of tides.
"Safety was one of the main driving factors behind this project, but convenience is one of the great benefits," Mayor Russell said.
"The new pontoon means you won’t have to wait while entire families get on and off the boat in front of you with all their equipment – that can now be done to the side."
The work at Parsley Bay cost $500,000, which was half-funded by a grant from Roads and Maritime Service.
Council now has its sight set on the boat ramp at Wisemans Ferry, further up the Hawkesbury River, which is expected to be replaced within the next 18 months. Try this NSW boat ramp locator.
