New Bertram 58 announced

The reborn Bertram badge is about to start building its new 58 based on the classic 54

While hesitant to reveal its new flagship for fear of overshadowing the beautiful new 35 about to splash, the reborn Bertram yard said it just couldn’t hold back with the news that its all-new 58 footer is about to start build.

Bertram Yacht, based in Fort Lauderdale but sourcing some of the best design brains in the business, says both new models are truly representative of the Eagle-and-chevron-badge legacy.

It also helps that there is big backing from the new Bertram owner, Beniamino Gavio, an entrepreneur from Piemonte from the namesake Gavio Group, which owns the long-serving Baglietto (super) Yachts yard and Cantieri Cerri (CCN) performance megayachts factory in Italy.

“Our mission is to produce tough and good looking, boats with superior ride and performance. So why not share a little?” proffered Captain Tommy Thompson, Product Development Manager at Bertram Yacht.

"I present to you the new Bertram 58. This is not some brushed-off mould we found in the corner. This represents an entirely new design from Michael Peters Yacht Design," he adds to his post.

Bertram has announced it will start the tooling for the 58 in three months’ time, right around the same time the yard launches the Bertram 35. Indeed, the headline to this news story on the Bertram site is 58 is the new 54.

"I think this demonstrates our deep commitment to covering the full Bertram range, with updated models that evoke our legacy, while at the same time incorporating the latest in design, construction and performance technology," Captain Thompson says.

"Believe me, this is not a casual venture for Bertram’s parent company, the Gavio Group, and its President, Beniamino Gavio. He is fully invested in the new Bertram Yacht."

Bertram says in order to meet demand from today’s serious boating enthusiasts, they needed more running surface, more horsepower, better fuel efficiency, and more onboard space than in the original Bertram 54.

"That’s why we went to 58 feet. Every captain out there has cut his teeth on a Bertram 54. We wanted to create the boat that the next generation cuts its teeth on,"  Captain Thompson explains.

The Bertram 58 is said to have a cutting-edge design with space-planning extending to the machinery spaces. The engine room is said to be as important as the master stateroom. Base power is provided by V12 Caterpillar C32 ACERT diesels, and she is projected to top out at well above 40 knots.

Meantime, the 35 is getting ready for a late-summer US debut and from the drawings she looks fantastic. There will be a lot of the brand faithful awaiting further news and following the build of this new 58 as well. More  at www.bertram.com.
