Furthering its presence in the larger powerboat market, Beneteau has a new flagship Gran Turismo 50 in either Hardtop or Sportfly variants.
Already a Hardtop version has been sold into Australia in time for the owner to enjoy New Year's Eve fireworks on Sydney Harbour.
"We believe the Sportfly will also be popular with the Australian market and it’s great to have both options and layouts to offer buyers," Graham Raspass from importer Flagstaff Marine said.
Using modest Volvo Penta 435hp IPS 600s with pod drives, and Beneteau’s so-called AirStep2 hull designed in cahoots with Volvo, the Gran Turismo 50 clearly chases optimum fuel efficiency.
With a hull length of 14.17m or 46ft 6in, the ’50 footer’ weighs (dry) just 13,640kg as a Hardtop and 13,935kg as the SportFly.
But the relatively light boat looks like it will be right at home scooting about big-city waterways like Sydney Harbour and doing that in fine style.
Ease of operation is clearly another key part of the brief, with IPS joystick docking and digital switching.
NEW TECHNOLOGIES
The Gran Turismo 50 is the first Beneteau powerboat to be fitted with its new on-board Ship Control technology. Inspired by the auto industry, the digital switching provides centralised access to the boat’s systems.
You can check the gauges, manage air-conditioning, lights, the AV system and more from the integrated navigation screens and 7in tablet.
INTERIOR DESIGNS
Meantime, Italian designers Nuvolari & Lenard and Andreani Design created the interior design and sporty lines, with lots of glazing in keeping with European boats.
The open-plan saloon melds into the cockpit to create one big, light, airy and spacious living area where everyone can join in the fun.
Retractable aft saloon glass and a galley on the lower accommodation level add to the sense of space.
In the Hardtop configuration, the Gran Turismo 50 combines a retractable aft awning, side windows that can be lowered, and an opening roof.
The Sportfly has a second driving station up top with a big view of the sea from the helm seat, plus a double bench converting to a sun-lounge.
On either variant, the tender garage has been designed for 2.90m RIB or a Williams minijet, while the hydraulic swim platform has a 350kg capacity. There is an al fresco grill above this swim platform.
Available in two or three cabins, each layout boasts a full-beam owner suite bathed in light and with a private separate shower and dressing room.
Walnut joinery has been chosen to marry with the padded linings, lacquered finishes, and soft-touch leatherette upholstery, Beneteau adds.
The new Gran Turismo 50 was released at Cannes Yachting Festival in September (2017) and joins the 40 and 46 in the sportcruiser range.
The GT50 is selling on our sites for about $1.15m cruise away on our sites.
