BRP has just revealed an expanded Evinrude E-TEC G2 V6 outboard line-up at its Club BRP Evinrude 2017 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. There will now be a 150hp, 150hp H.O., 175hp and 200hp E-TEC G2 joining the previous 3.4lt 200hp H.O.-300hp models.
The new V6 2.7lt 150hp-200hp Evinrude E-TEC G2 offerings include integrated Dynamic Power Steering or DPS, fully integrated auto trim assist known as iTrim, Digital Shift and Throttle, cleaning rigging, claimed lowest emissions in the class, and a cool new Ice Blue colour scheme (shown above).
The new 150hp E-TEC G2 class is said to be based on proven technology and includes just 260 new parts as opposed to 700-plus new parts in the Evinrude’s harbinger V6 E-TEC G2s from 200-300hp released two years ago. BRP said new product is ready to ship globally next week.
A 20-inch TRAC+ midsection on the 150hp models with i-Trim is also available for boaters that want a lighter package without integrated power steering.
In addition to the new G2 engine line up, Evinrude also expanded the 2017 product year line by introducing two 60 H.O. models available in 20-inch and 25-inch configurations.
These models offer consumers best-in-class performance in the 60 horsepower range, claims BRP, and are said to be a perfect fit for most applications where additional performance is desired, including aluminum fishing, multi-species, pontoon, bay and flats boats.
Attending the upbeat Club BRP Evinrude 2017 event were the global dealer and OEM network, which has been bolstered by 15 new dealers and two OEMs in the last quarter.
TWO-STROKE ASSAULT
The new 150 class is part of a new global two-stroke assault. The Evinrude E-TEC G2 technology is moving down the line to increase the appeal of the brand’s popular mid-range outboard offerings, to offer real innovation in "a sea of sameness," and to improve market share.
The new Australian Telwater OEM partnership with BRP was a key part of the launch. The exclusive distributor of Evinrude E-TEC in Australia now offers from the new 150hp to the 300hp Evinrude E-TEC G2 models to the Australian public and, before long, attached to its aluminium-boat range as factory-rolled rigs.
The new 150hp Evinrude E-TEC G2 was shown on a Quintrex Cruiseabout with matching colour scheme as an ideal everyday Australian boating package. Expect keen pricing now that Telwater, the boatbuilder, is importing direct.
"We partnered with BRP because it makes boating easier for boaters," said Telwater MD Paul Phelan in a video presentation at the BRP event.
"Telwater has more than 300 dealers and this is all about gaining more market share.
"We build about 9000 aluminium boats a year, we’re the largest [boatbuilder] in the Southern Hemisphere, and we build in Australia for Australian conditions.
"Telwater and Evinrude is an unstoppable combination... so look out guys here we come," Mr Phelan enthused before the global dealer and media audience.
TELWATER HOOKUP
In March 2016, BRP appointed Telwater, the largest manufacturer of aluminium boats in Australia, as the sole distributor of Evinrude in Australia, as this news article explains.
Telwater is the umbrella company behind boat brands including Quintrex, Stacer and Savage and uses the Evinrude brand as its mainstay OEM (original equipment) engine.
The initial agreement will cover the distribution of engines only. During the transition, BRP will continue to be responsible for all genuine parts and accessories as well as the training of technicians and the administration of warranties.
In a statement released March 11, 2016, MD of Telwater Mr Phelan said: "Since 2011, we have been working with BRP to offer quality Telwater boat and Evinrude E-TEC engine packages.
"This new agreement will further strengthen our collaboration and ensure we continue to offer consumers products that provide the best boating experience possible."
AIMING FOR GROWTH
"Our sights are clearly set on substantial
growth," said Alain Villemure, BRP’s Senior Vice President and general
manager, Marine propulsion systems division (pictured far right in second
photo), going into Club BRP Evinrude 2017.
"From Ole Evinrude’s
invention of the outboard engine in 1909 to its re-invention with the
Evinrude E-TEC G2 engine in 2014, BRP’s Evinrude brand has been
synonymous with innovation.
"We are extremely proud of this
heritage and will continue to build upon the legacy with accelerated
product introductions in the near future."
THE E-TEC G2
The launch of the all-new Evinrude E-TEC G2 engine we attended two years ago in Milwaukee marked a new era in outboard engines for BRP.
The 'iron-man' styling was polarising and futurisitic, but so too the engineering, which you can read about in the link above.
BRP claims the new 150hp Evinrude E-TEC G2 offers up to 30 per cent more torque, up to 15 pr cent better fuel efficiency, and up to 75 per cent fewer total regulated emissions compared to leading four-stroke outboard engines. The new models will also feature a distinctive, customisable look that allows consumers to perfectly match their boat.
In addition, the new E-TEC G2 outboard engine boasts an industry-leading warranty and maintenance schedule that sets the standard for ease of ownership by only requiring dealer-scheduled maintenance every five years or 500 hours, affirmed BRP., adding that the new Evinrude E-TEC 60 H.O. models mentioned above feature three years or 300 hours with no dealer-scheduled maintenance.
Recognised for innovation, the Evinrude E-TEC G2 engines have won prestigious design awards from Good Design, Good Design Australia and Red Dot Design Awards, as well as the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) Innovation Award at the 2015 Miami International Boat Show.
BRP's Evinrude engine line-up, from 3.5hp to 300hp, offers customers superior value across a full range of applications, BRP says. That value proposition is a big part of the Evinrude marketing thrust.
Evinrude outboard engines are available at authorised Evinrude dealerships worldwide. The next question is: will we see Evinrude E-TEC G2 outboards in the V4 sizes from say 90 or 115 up to 130hp at the next Club BRP in two years' time?
