The Melbourne Whittley Cruiser Club has announced an exciting new 2014 National Whittley Regatta to be held over the Easter long weekend in the stunning Renmark area of the Murray River.
Melbourne Whittley Cruiser Club Commodore Stuart Malone said his club’s organising committee has been hard at work planning what promises to be a very special cruising event.
After feedback from the Queensland Whittley Regatta this year, many members from the NSW and QLD Whittley clubs said they have never experienced the mighty Murray.
Thus, the decision was soon made to stage the next big event around Renmark on the River Murray. The faithful Whittley Club has decided on a fitting pioneer theme for what promises to be a great trailerboat regatta.
Where all the rivers meet, all the Whittley Clubs come together, the 2014 National Whittley Pioneer Regatta…
Malone says the Renmark area of the River Murray provides the perfect environment and waterways for the event to be held.
The trip will take boat owners, down through the rivers lock system, past sandy spits and through majestic cliffs along the banks of the river, as well as passing historic townships and landmarks.
This journey and expedition will draw on the river’s long history, importance to the local area and the many townships which rely on it even today. The relaxing freshwater environment, ability to have fun and partake in water sports, or even chase the legendary Murray Cod all add to the appeal.
Neville Whittley from the Whittley Marine Group said: "We are very pleased to see the Melbourne Whittley Cruiser Club provide a confirmed location for the 2014 National Whittley Regatta over the Easter long weekend on the River Murray.
“Every two years, each Whittley Club takes turns at hosting the event, and every event provides a great environment for Whittley owners to come together and enjoy the atmosphere and company of fellow owners from right across the country.
“2014 will be no different and we look forward to seeing all Whittley owners make the journey down to explore the mighty Murray River,” Whittley adds.
However, numbers are limited, so Whittley owners right across Australia need to express their interest in the event as soon as possible. Phone 0424 592 507 or email peterh@bigpond.net.au.
