National Boating Week: The family that plays together, stays together

Boating has been a long-time conduit that brings families together

Australians have an inherent passion for the outdoors and it is understandable given the magnificent country we have. As the largest island in the world, our access to the ocean, bays and rivers is significant.

Boating has provided access to these waterways for many Australians with more than 85 per cent of the population living within 50km of the coast.

It is estimated that more than 20 per cent of all Australians engage in some form of boating annually and that almost one in five households have a boat or watercraft.

The diversity of boating available to Aussies has meant that there is something for everyone, including families.

In this world of technology and other regular distractions, boating has remained a conduit where families are able to share and enjoy the outdoors and leisure on the water together.

It has been said that the family that plays together really does stay together. This is particularly relevant at a time of COVID-19 where domestic outdoor activities for family households is such an attractive option.

Beautiful experiences are possible for all families to enjoy irrespective of age, gender or ability.

Options are extensive with leisure and sports boating creating diversity for people.

Celebrating boating

Boating and the joys and benefits associated with it are being celebrated Australia-wide during National Boating Week.

Fittingly, this week will occur alongside with National Safe Boating Week organised and delivered by the Australia New Zealand Safe Boating Education Group.

Its focus is on educating the public to understand that safe boating means being a responsible boat owner.

Boats need regular maintenance, servicing and safety checks to keep them ship-shape. Find out more at https://www.amsa.gov.au/national-safe-boating-week.
