Name change for Hirecraft

Hirecraft Marine has changed its named to Lifestyle Marine.

"Hirecraft Marine is an icon in the marine industry," the company's general manager, Damien Hurt, said.
"Changing the company's name has been on the agenda for years, however it is one of those things that we were reluctant to do (due to) the strength and fantastic reputation that is immediately associated with the name Hirecraft Marine."

The New South Wales company has not hired out boats for nearly 20 years, focusing instead on boat sales, accessory sales, service, and promoting the benefits and pleasures that a boating lifestyle can bring.

Lin Hurt, with the help of his wife Vera, started Hirecraft Marine in 1947, ferrying people around Lake Macquarie.

As the business evolved it began hiring out smaller boats as people became more interested in exploring the lake recreationally on an individual basis, instead of on large ferries.

The company soon moved into boat sales, about the same time Lin's son Geoff, the current managing director, joined the Hirecraft team.

Damien Hurt said the day-to-day operation, management and ownership of the company would not change as a result of the name change.

"The only changes will be continued improvements in the way we do business," he said.
