If it wasn’t for the water, the gathering of Mustangs at the Sanctuary Cove Marina last weekend could have been taken for an old fashioned, wild west round-up.
Twenty five Mustang boats and more than 80 people answered the call put out by Mustang owners Charles Phillis and Dave Hatton to get together to show their support for the troubled Queensland manufacturer, Mustang Marine.
On Saturday night the Quayside Cocktail Bar at the marina was packed with Mustang owners and their families and friends as they enjoyed the live music, canapés and drinks on offer. A large number of Mustang staff, including CEO Charles Heaton and the principal Queensland dealer, Carl Kellet, joined the celebrations.
Mustang Marine is currently seeking a new major investor and restructuring its business to ensure it is better equipped to meet the current market conditions. The company is hoping to keep trading as normal and plans to have a full display at next month's Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show.
Phillis and Hatton say they organised the weekend to reignite the passion boating brings to so many families and to reinforce the dedication Mustang owners have to the brand. "The weekend proved to be a time of great fun, great stories and great friendship," Phillis says.
Mustang's Heaton says he was very honoured by the support the customers gave to management. "To see so many people rally together like this provided a positive picture that will only help to secure a positive future for the company," Heaton says.
