More grunt from 8.2-litre V8

Mercury introduces more powerful 8.2-litre big block V8

If you want real grunt from your boat's engine, there is really no substitute for cubic capacity -- big donks produce the ponies.

And when it comes to big, Mercury MerCruiser has hit the nail on the head with its new 8.2-litre motor that produces more power and has better mid-range acceleration, lower emissions and superior fuel economy than its precursors.

The new MerCruiser 8.2 delivers 380hp in its standard form and a whopping 430hp in the HO (high octane) model. The Naturally aspirated big block engines feature high-performance aluminium cylinder heads to give better gas flow and more power.

The standard engine will run on 87 octane petrol and has very low oil consumption.

"Our team achieved superior performance while maintaining fuel efficiency and improved serviceability," Mercury MerCruiser project manger Derric Drake told the Boatsales Network.

Drake says that thanks to boat builder and dealer input, the access to the engines' service points and connections was significantly improved to simplify installation and maintenance.

The new 8.2L MerCruiser engines will be available in sterndrive and inboard configurations.
