The MCY 105 – one of the rarest, costliest and most highly customised motor yachts in the world – is set to arrive in Australia late this year ahead of a handover to its new owner.
Very few of the Italian-made Monte Carlo Yachts make it to Australia, so the arrival of the MCY 105 is something special. The 32-metre, three-level flybridge motor yacht, built from a mix of fibreglass, Kevlar and carbon-fibre, is the flagship of the Monte Carlo range launched to celebrate the brand’s fifth anniversary.
Damien Johnson, the eastern region manager for Australian high-end motor yacht brokerage The Boutique Boat Company, said helping the MCY 105’s new owner fit out the new long-range liveaboard cruiser was an “amazing process” that started with the new owner approaching the brokerage to help with the lengthy order and build process.
“The building process alone can take 12 to 18 months depending on production slot availability [at the Monte Carlo factory], so it could be two years from when the order is made to the boat being delivered,” Johnson said.
“We’re not dealers or distributors for Monte Carlo Yachts, but The Boutique Boat Company has established relationships with a number of high-end boatyards all around the world,” he said.
The Boutique Boat Company then acted as an intermediary with Monte Carlo Yachts, arranging regular online meetings between the boatyard and the buyer – at times as often as once a fortnight – to lock in the MCY 105’s customised interior.
The reason the meetings were so frequent? According to Johnson, because Monte Carlo is based in Italy, its buyers are spoilt for choice when it comes to what the finished motor yacht will look like.
“Because they’re [Monte Carlo Yachts] Italian, they have these fantastic relationships with Italian companies that make some of the best fabrics and components in the world to fit out the interior with,” he said.
“They’re very accommodating to making the vessel according to the owner’s requests.”
Ordinarily, a number of meetings would have been face-to-face in the factory, with the new owner able to see the motor yacht while it is still a work in progress, not just a finished product once it is delivered.
However, the COVID-19 pandemic has meant the boat’s new owner is unlikely to see it in anything other than virtual form until it arrives in Australia.
The new MCY 105 is expected to be delivered to Sydney late this year where it will be greeted by its new owner, before making its way up to the Gold Coast in time for the 2022 yachting season.
The Australian-delivery MCY 105 is yet to be named but is expected to wear one in time for its arrival here.
There’s no price quoted for the MCY 105 – as a fully customised yacht the price that individual owners pay for their showpiece can vary widely.
The raised pilothouse MCY 105 can accommodate up to 10 people across five staterooms, with the owner enjoying a suite running across the hull’s full 7.2-metre beam. There is also room for two crew, and options for a three- or four-stateroom layout.
Outdoor living spaces include a large swim deck and beach platform, big, open cockpits, and a large open flybridge with one of the biggest sunroofs you’re ever likely to see.
The Boutique Boat Company also acts as the Australian representatives for high-end motor yacht brands including Benetti, Wider Yachts and de Antonio Yachts, and tender/day boat brands Ribbon Yachts and Nuova Jolly.
