Axius was named "Best Sterndrive" and the Verado took home the "Best Redesign" award.
Mercury said that each year, MotorBoating - which was first published in 1908 and has a monthly circulation of more than 134,000 - selects an exclusive group of engines, boats and electronic systems which have made a significant and notable impact in the marine community. The awards recognise the most innovative products on the market today.
MotorBoating editorial director, Peter Janssen, presented the awards to Kevin Grodzki, president of Mercury MerCruiser, and Mark Schwabero, president of Mercury Outboards.
Designed for twin sterndrive boats, the Axius propulsion system makes piloting a larger boat effortless and intuitive, said Mercury. Using a joystick to control speed and direction, the manufacturer said Axius allows even inexperienced captains to easily and accurately manoeuvre larger boats in the tightest possible conditions - moving laterally, at an angle, forward, backward or spinning on the spot.
