Mercury's new 200hp Pro FourStroke -- the third member in the Pro FourStroke outboard-engine family -- has been designed and built to deliver swift acceleration and top speed, while retaining the smooth and agreeably quiet operation for which Verados are well known.
??As with the existing 250 and 300 Pro FourStroke models, the new 200hp Pro is built on the reliable inline 2.7L six-cylinder platform.
The engine weighs 288kg (dry) for the 20in shaft model, is designed to rev out to 5800-6400rpm at WOT, and comes with a big 70A belt-driven alternator to power all your on-board electrical demands.
In America, the Pro Series is said to be perfect for powering bass boats, multi-species boats, saltwater bay boats, and performance pontoon and tritoon boats.
“This is an engine which is going to delight a lot of people with its performance and its pricepoint,” said Nicholas Webb, Mercury’s Director of Outboard Products for Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific.
“It will revitalise virtually any boat and perform well on single-hull fishing or watersports boats. Those types of applications will benefit the most from the superior handling and manoeuvrability, extra torque, and the all-around better-driving experience that’s provided by Mercury Verado Pro models,” Webb said.
Mercury says the Pro FourStrokes come with true automotive-like power steering that eliminates torque for less driver fatigue so you can expend your energy fishing and not fighting the wheel.
Like the 250hp and 300hp Pro FourStroke variants, the new 200hp Pro features Mercury Marine’s 4.8” Verado gearcase with a small hydrodynamic profile to ensure top performance. This gearcase is available exclusively in right-hand rotation on 20-inch (L) and 25-inch (XL) driveshafts.
Claiming outstanding hole shoe and torque, and punchy mid-range acceleration, Mercury says its new Verado 200hp Pro FourStroke delivers its performance thanks to exclusive state-of-the-art supercharge technology that allows precise, programmable control over the fuel and air intake.
Mercury says no competing engine can "manage intake with this precision because no other engine is supercharged with computer-controlled boost.??"
The Verado 200hp Pro FourStroke also comes standard with the Advanced Mid Section (AMS), Digital Throttle and Shift (DTS) and electro-hydraulic power steering for "an unrivalled driving experience."
The world's only supercharged production outboard engine, Mercury's Verado FourStrokes aim to deliver the acceleration of a traditional two-stroke with outstanding performance, unmatched reliability and an automotive-like driving experience, says the big outboard maker.
The Verado 200hp Pro FourStroke is now available from Mercury dealers in Australia and New Zealand and, for recreational use, is backed by Mercury Marine’s 3+2 = five-year warranty and the industry’s only three-year corrosion warranty.
