Team Mercury is competing in the competition in a Stratos 285 Pro XL fitted with a 150hp Mercury Generation II OptiMax. It is the first time ever that a Generation II OptiMax has been fitted to a tournament boat, with the engine specially air freighted from the US.
The Australian Fishing Championships consists of seven rounds: three bass, three bream, and a final round for barramundi, and is held in prime fishing spots all around Australia.
“With a fully stocked boat, the OptiMax got us up on the plane extremely fast,” Team Mercury’s David Green said. “I have always loved the OptiMax product, but this new generation is just awesome. Its sheer speed on its very first run blew us all away.”
