Mercury Racing has launched the TE Cleaver, a new propeller optimised for smaller outboard engines fitted to boats that need to run at high speeds.
The “TE” in the new propeller’s name stands for “through exhaust”. The lower engine performance range of the new prop suggests it could also be used for Mercury’s 40hp to 60hp FourStroke range of outboard engines that exit the exhaust through the prop hub.
The new prop features a 12-inch diameter and a 22-inch pitch, and will be made only in right-hand spin configuration, meaning it is only suited to single-engine applications.
Mercury Racing also says the new TE Cleaver prop will work best with lightweight hulls such as catamarans or tunnel boats, and will have limited use for anyone thinking about fitting it to a boat with a vee bottom.
The new prop joins Mercury Racing’s range of outboard engine-optimised propellers as the only one to feature only three blades.
