Mercury Racing has added a new mid-section option to its 300R outboard engine, giving owners the option of even more setback to help with high-speed running.
The Mercury Racing Advanced MidSection (Racing AMS), to date featured only on the range-topping Mercury Racing 450R, will be available with either a 5.44-inch HD or a Sport Master gearcase, and a choice of two colours – black or white.

“With the addition of Racing AMS, more powerboat enthusiasts can experience maximum performance in the 300hp outboard class that is only available from the Mercury Racing 300R,” Mercury Racing general manager Stuart Halley said.
“This package should be especially appealing for use on high-performance, stepped-bottom centre console boats, many of which have transoms already optimised for the added setback of the (Racing) AMS as offered on other Mercury Marine and Mercury Racing outboard products,” he said.
According to Mercury Racing, the Racing AMS allows for a wider range of tilt on narrow motor wells.
It will come optimised for one of two different options: a surface-piercing SportMaster for speeds above 140km/hand a 5.44-inch HD version “use on bay boats and multi-engine performance stepped-bottom center consoles where the application requires a broader, more submerged gearcase to generate lift”.
“With the new 300R Racing AMS models, more performance enthusiasts may now experience the awesome punch of a Mercury Racing V8 outboard,” Halley said.
The Mercury Racing AMS features heavy-duty guide plates and stiffened mounts that stabilise the outboard engine at high speeds. The engines also now have the option of a tie-bar for sharper control of multihull boats.
Mercury Racing said the 300R featuring the Racing AMS would be produced in “limited numbers” during its 2022 program year, with the order books now open.
