Over the past year Mercury Marine has continued to improve and increase the capacity of its engineering operations to accommodate the diesel products that Mercury acquired from the recently dissolved CMD joint venture in Charleston, S.C.
The new Diesel engines are an improved version of the current TDI 3.0L V6 (VW) and TDI 4.2L V8 (Audi Q7 heritage) released by Mercury in early 2012. They have been reworked to enhance user experience in several areas. The new V8 engine have been available since July, with V6 engines from this December.
Both the new V6 and V8 diesels come standard with SmartCraft technology that makes them compatible with all other digital Mercury accessories. Factory fit options such as DTS (Digital Throttle and Shift), SeaCore, and Axius joystick control are available for the new engines.
The automotive-based TDI product line is well-known for its exceptional build quality, low NVH (Noise Vibration Harshness), outstanding fuel consumption and industry leading power to weight ratio, says Mercury.
The exceptional torque at low engine speed is said to guarantee excellent acceleration to get any vessel on plane quickly. The new TDI engines are TIER3 compliant and are also available for light duty commercial (LDC) applications.
For sterndrive applications, the engines are available with Mercury’s best-in-class X and XR drives.
Inboard engine applications can be coupled with a variety of ZF transmissions to suit all requirements.
The TDI 3.0L V6 Diesel engine is offered with 230 and 265hp power options and the TDI 4.2L V8 Diesel engine is offered in 335 and 370hp variants.
