Mercury Diesel is the new badge for the namesake marine engine giant's high-speed TDI and QSD ranges of diesel inboard engines.
“The Mercury Diesel brand has been established following the decision to dissolve the Cummins MerCruiser Diesel (CMD) joint venture in September last year,” said David Meehan, Director – MerCruiser Australia, New Zealand, Pacific.
All the joint venture’s engineering and high-speed product development was transferred to Mercury and is now under the Mercury Diesel brand.
“We now have these world-class diesel engines, which have proven themselves in the field in a huge range of applications. And with the global launch of the TDI motors last year the product range has gone from strength to strength,” Mr Meehan said.
The TDI range of diesel engines has been created with Volkswagen’s engineering excellence to deliver automotive-like performance. Lightweight and compact, TDI diesels lay claim to leading the industry in power-to-weight ratio.
Meanwhile, exceptional torque at low engine speeds is said to provide excellent acceleration and quicker time to plane.
The QSD series has a proven high-pressure common-rail fuel system for a quiet, smooth ride with virtually no smoke or odour. The engines are said to emit 80 percent less noise than rival diesel engines.
Plus, QSD engines also provide impressive acceleration and precise throttle response, Mercury Diesel says. The engines are backed one of the most comprehensive dealer networks across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific.
For the last 70 years, Mercury says it has led the industry in innovation and that tradition is going to be continued at Mercury Diesel.
“As with everything else Mercury, we’re determined to stay ahead of the pack – stay tuned!” Mr Meehan said. For details visit www.mercurymarine.com.au.
