Mercury develops weedless prop

New design promises smoother running

Underwater vegetation has long been the bane of freshwater anglers. They love the fish that lurk in the cover of water weeds but they hate getting handfuls of muck caught around the props of their tolling motors.

Mercury Propeller Divison has now developed the MotorGlide Safari weedless propeller which promises to give not only a new level in weed-free performance but also exceptional open-water power.

The Safari features an efficient two-blade prop built on a taped-hub design that leaves no gap between the prop and the housing -- meaning that weeds keep moving towards the blades, which cut tem and throw them clear.

The propeller is constructed from durable glass-filled nylon designed to endure run-ins with stumps and rocks hidden by the vegetation.

The Safari was been comprehensively tested in the United States and already has fans.

"While we have had 'weedless' props before, Safari has taken the concept to a whole new level, " says five-time BASS winner Terry Scroggins, "Without a doubt this is the quietest and most weed-free design on the market."
