Mercury Marine has announced the arrival of eight new V8 outboards and an additional V6 model. The new eight outboards and 175hp Pro XS V6 join the line-up of new-tech engines the US marine giant unveiled earlier this year.
Mercury says the new engines are “part of the largest single new-product development program in the company’s history”.
The V8 outboard engine line-up announced today comprises 250 and 300hp Verados, 250 and 300hp FourStrokes and 200, 225, 250 and 300hp Pro XS models. All are based on a new 4.6-litre block.
The 175hp Pro XS V6 displaces 3.4-litres.

“In Miami [Boat Show], we said the V6 [outboards] was step one of our 2018 introductions and we are thrilled to officially announce step two,” said John Pfeifer, Mercury Marine president.
“These new V8 engines, like the V6, will set a new benchmark in the marine industry in the eyes of the consumer,” he stated.
Mercury says the new outboards are “highly configurable to meet the needs of a wide variety of boat lovers”.
“These engines are naturally aspirated, durable, powerful and provide options for the consumer that they’ve never had before,” Pfeifer said.
“This new line-up aligns with what consumers are asking for and we are delighted to deliver it to them.”

The new 250 and 300hp Verados are compatible with Mercury Joystick Piloting for Outboards and feature digital controls and electro-hydraulic power steering.
New 250 & 300hp FourStroke get Digital Throttle Shift (DTS) controls and the choice of hydraulic or power steering. The engines are also available in multiple colours and can be further customised with the addition of an accent panel, the company says.
The new 175-300hp Pro XS range, of one V6 and four V8s, feature Mercury’s new compact cowl and “performance-tuned” exhausts.
“These engines deliver everything serious boaters and fishers need on the water, including ample torque from their high-displacement powerheads and superior acceleration due to their quad-cam design and Transient Spark technology,” the Mercury release claimed.
Look out for the new range of Mercury V8s during the upcoming boat show season.
