The Melbourne Runabout and Speed Boat Club are running the Melton Gold Cup 2012 in conjunction with the Australian Displacement Championships at the Melton Reservoir, on the weekend of February 3rd, 4th and 5th 2012.
The weekend will see the return of blown-boat racing to the Weir with a strong field of Capsule BAD boats on the water racing side by side at speeds up to 150mph. We will also have Australia’s top tunnel boats with respected racer Craig Bailey making the trip from Sydney.
All classes will be represented including: Formula Future where you will see Kids from 12 years of age racing there boats at speeds of up to 60km/h. 6 litre, 5.2 litre, 4.2 litre inboards, and 25hp, 1800, 2000, outboard displacements will be competing on the weekend.
Melton Reservoir is the perfect venue for this style of racing with the entire course being visible to spectators.
Put these three dates down in your February Calendar: Friday 3rd to see the boats out on the water for their practice runs, chat to the drivers in the pits and have a fun night. Saturday 4th the racing will begin at 9.00am at Melton Reservoir, for the heats of the Australian Championships.
