Melbourne Show adds extra space

More exhibitors prompt increase in size

The Boating Industry Association of Victoria (BIA) has expanded its exhibitor space for the 53rd Annual BIA Melbourne Boat Show.

BIA general manager Steven Gill confirmed an extra 3,000 square metres in the main hall -- and said it was virtually pre-sold to keen exhibitors.

"It has actually taken longer to obtain the extra space than it took to line up the extra exhibitors," he said.

"Better still, our exhibitors include exciting new brands and new products as well as great new products from regular exhibitors."

Mr Gill said that there has even been interest from the automotive sector. "With the cancellation of the Melbourne International Motor Show, we've now had expressions of interest from at least two car companies, he said.

"We have a new player in the RIB (rigid inflatable boat) market, big new fishing boats from Bar Crusher and Whittley, and lots of accessories including an amazing locally-developed multi-media unit from GME.

“This year we also have a major presence from Victoria’s top boating destinations, with Geelong Otway, Murray River and Gippsland regions leading the charge.

"And of course, in the established tradition of BIA Victoria’s commitment to boating safety, everyone who buys a new boat at the Show gets a free half-day boat handling course."

Mr Gill said the BIA had re-drawn the floorplan to allocate the additional 3,000 square metres, and it would be sold on a 'first come, first served' basis.

The 53rd Annual BIA Melbourne Boat Show runs from Friday, June 14 to Monday June 17 at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre. Opening hours are 10.00am to 9.00pm daily except Sunday, when the show closes at 7.00pm, and Monday 8.00pm.
