To be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) in early July, the Melbourne Boat Show celebrates Victoria’s thriving boating industry and gives lovers of the aquatic life a sneak peak at what’s in store for the summer ahead.
From a ground-breaking new jet ski-cum-submarine that dives under and over waves, to demonstrations by waterskiing sensation Stars Down Under; from game fishing to wake boarding -- plenty of action is planned for the five-day public expo.
A first for the Melbourne Boat Show is a new competition, ‘Pimp my Boat’. In the lead-up to the event, boat lovers can post photographs online of their primed, painted and pimped-up boats to go in the draw to win a VIP experience at the expo.
Another premier attraction is a custom-built bar area. Sponsored by Network Ten and Broo Beer, the Melbourne Boat Show Manspace is a boutique bar for exhibitors, hosts, VIPs and boating enthusiasts to gather over a beer, and catch a glimpse of boating superstars and celebrities who will make daily appearances.
The 2012 Melbourne Boat Show will have world champions aplenty in attendance. Of particular note is Grant Harrison, who is the world champion power boat racer. Grant will be making an appearance on one of main stages.
From a product perspective, things guaranteed to get people talking at the 2012 Melbourne Boat Show are sure to include:
- The Seabreacher. This innovative submersible watercraft is built to resemble a great white shark, dolphin or killer whale, the Seabreacher can roll from side to side, dive under water and leap 12-18 feet in the air; and is capable of reaching speeds up to 80km per hour on the surface and 40km per hour underwater.
- Haines Hunter’s Enclosed Range. The 760 Enclosed is the first built-in Haines Hunter boat to hit the market, and it will be launched at the Melbourne Boat Show. Designed for serious anglers looking for protection from the elements, these boats feature Haines Hunter’s traditional soft, stable ride and can suit various applications.
Newcomers to the boating scene are also catered for. Amateurs can get their boating careers off to the right start by attending a TSV-approved training course run by the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard. These sessions, which run every day of the show, give successful participants a TSV certificate of completion, which can be presented at any Vic Roads office to obtain a Recreational Boat Operator License.
The Winter Boat Show promises to be a great day for the whole family, with a range of kids activities planned throughout the festival. Think ‘Flathead Fred’s Fun Fishin’ Show’ plus a range of games including indoor fishing, model making and coloring in, with plenty of prizes on offer.
The Melbourne Boat Show is an annual event that caters to Victoria’s growing number of boating and water sport enthusiasts. With 164,000 registered boats and 15,000 jet ski licenses in Victoria, the industry is alive and well.
