In an exclusive interview, John Haines Junior (joint Principal of Haines Marine Group), told BoatPoint and boatsales that the new Signature 650F was designed especially for serious buyers in the larger trailerboat market.
"Plate aluminium boats have a place but if people want a softer ride and greater fuel efficiency you need fibreglass," he explained. "But the big thing here is that the transom is modular..."
The first boat destined for a Victorian owner has twin live-bait tanks in a transom that doesn't need a splash well and that can fold back for full engine tilt. Depending on your needs, Haines Signature can build a walkthrough transom, a seating module or a single central live-bait tank of greater volume. There will be at least four main transom options, we're told.
The 650F being built for the Melbourne Boat Show has now been water tested with the latest Suzuki 250AP selective-rotation, lean-burn 4.0-litre four-stroke outboard. The boat is designed around a single engine because "today's outboard reliability makes twins obsolete," Haines says, adding that a 400-litre underfloor fuel tank comes standard for truly long-range fishing.
There is also a fully-enclosed hardtop and a completely new cockpit design to enhance the fishability for tuna and marlin fishers.
"I've listened to the hardcore fishermen and they said we needed straighter cockpit sides and a more upright internal transom edge to maximise space and fish-fighting room. We have that with the new 650F," Haines told us.
Haines Signature is working hard to get a base 650F package with 175hp Suzuki outboard to market for a whisker under $100K. Meantime, you can see this exciting bluewater Signature debut at the Melbourne Boat Show from June 12-15.
