Chaparral Australia will display its latest wake-surf boats at the Melbourne International Boat Show from June 16-19. The 227 and 257 Surf will head up the display, followed by luxury bowriders like the 216 SSi and 210 Suncoast outboard, plus a 203 Vortex jet boat and some Robalo fish boats.
The wake-surf boats from Chaparral use the Malibu Surf Gate system for one of the best-shaped boat-generated waves on the planet.
Having launched at the Noosa Festival of Surf in March 2017 with world champion skim-boarder Austin Keen, the Chaparral boats are now primed to make waves around Australia and in southern watersports states like Vic.
Keen, who was brought out here by Chaparral, was of course full of praise for the latest wake-surfing rigs.
"They use the Malibu Surf Gate system, which in my opinion creates the best-shaped wake surf wave currently on the market."
Scott O’Hare from Chaparral Australia said the Noosa launch was a brilliant way to show the benefits of owning a Chaparral wake-surf boat.
"We surfed the Noosa River most mornings and then took off out through the bar into Laguna Bay for a surf off the beach in the afternoons.
"At one stage, Mother Nature hadn’t provided any real waves and we ended up with some of the world’s best carving up behind the big Chaparral 257 Surf, enjoying the endless waves for hours.”
O’Hare says unlike other sterndrive-boat manufacturers, Chaparral hasn’t just added the revolutionary Volvo Forward-Facing Drive technology, extra ballast and standard trim tabs as an option, but the boatbuilder actually redesigned five of its hulls for the job.
When coupled with Malibu Surf Gate, the surf computer and ballast create impressive wave faces. O’Hare claims they are bigger and cleaner than any other sterndrive wakeboat and most of the traditional shaftdrive boats, plus the Chaparrals are designed for saltwater use.
In addition to its Surf range, Chaparral will also debut its latest outboard boat, the 21 H2o Bowrider. The H2o series is aimed at entry-level buyers, but the boats still come with high quality DNA and tough construction.
On display at Melbourne boat show, Chaparral will have Volvo Penta sterndrive and the Forward Facing Drive boats, jet-powered models, as well as a range of fishing boats from sister brand Robalo, including a 160 centre console and 227 and 247 dual console models.
Chaparral and Robalo can be found on the Aussie Boat Sales stand #D10 at the Melbourne Boat Show to be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from June 16-19.
