Tri60BMT Asia Pacific and McConaghy Boats have announced the development of the Tri60. Short-listed for the International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2015 in the Yacht Concept up to 40m category, this exciting new 60ft trimaran seeks to balance the desire for space, style and speed in a unique platform that is poised to create big waves across the global power boat sector.
Boasting a modern, luxury design, the Tri60 is designed to provide an impressive power boat experience combining the comforts and pleasures of a day out on the water.
Speaking at the announcement, Richard Colwill, Managing Director at BMT Asia Pacific said: "BMT worked with McConaghy two years ago on a unique composite project at the same time that the much-celebrated 142-foot Adastra trimaran was being completed. We asked: how can we capture the spirit of this compelling work? How do we create something that is as innovative and exciting, whilst also being accessible to a wider dayboat or weekender market?"
Colwill said the Tri60 was created through the expertise and passion of BMT’s naval architects and engineers across Asia and Europe (www.bmtyachts.com) with styling assisted by Henry Ward Design and A Sea Marine. It will be available in two variants: the more open Tri60 Cabriolet, ideal for those focussed on outdoor enjoyment, and the more enclosed Tri60 Saloon, which boasts an incredibly spacious cabin that straddles the full width of the deck. Both variants are built off an optimised trimaran hull form providing outstanding performance, and backed by the assurance of McConaghy’s award winning build quality.
Mark Evans, Joint Managing Director at McConaghy notes: "In taking the Tri60 forward, we are building on decades of high-performance composite and multi-hull experience in prototype and production boats that will deliver a unique yacht, providing clients space, style and speed in a manner that no other yacht of this size offers."
SPACE
The Tri60 will provide unexpected roominess. Its wide beam is more commonly found in yachts of 90ft and the inclusion of massive windows, skylights and sliding glass doors support the seamless integration of indoor and outdoor space. At rest, surprises are still in store as a stern garage is sized for a 10ft four-person tender, allowing the Tri60 to be the base for coastal exploration, while the pontoons store additional deck furniture, fenders and water toys.
STYLE
The Tri60 turns heads – the focus of attention in any setting. The forward hull arches across to the pontoons, with long sweeping lines defining the powerful poise of the hull, even when at rest. The Tri60 features a lightweight carbon fibre roof, providing guests with a spacious open canopy to the stars and sky. Large sliding doors and windows, plus flexible furniture configuration allows the owner to rapidly and easily tailor the yacht to best suit swimming, lounging or entertaining and dining.
FAST AND EFFICIENT
The Tri60 will have a top speed of up to 32 knots on its base engine option. More importantly is how it delivers this speed: its narrow hull rides above the waves with smooth comfortable passage-making assisted by the optimised pontoon design. The efficient hull permits the twin 475hp engines to deliver cruising and top speeds in a compact and lightweight package, providing unmatched performance (around 30 per cent less power and fuel than a comparable monohull at 25 knots), while twin water jets are coupled with fingertip control for manoeuvring in marinas.
"We are very excited to offer McConaghy’s advanced composite construction capabilities in partnership with BMT’s design initiative," said Evans. "The combined strength of our two organisations has created a light, efficient and durable yacht with eye catching style. The Tri60 is truly a platform for owners to experience the water in ways that they could only once dream of," he added.
