Maritimo has confirmed its X50 will make its world debut at the 2019 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show in May ahead of hitting Sydney and the global show circuit.
The announcement comes as boatsales.com.au was given access along with other boating media to the boat’s plug, a work in progress that will eventually become the form for the moulds needed to create the production version of the sports motor yacht.
We can’t show you any images of the plug – the sharp-lined Maritimo X50 is still in a very early stage of production so the Gold Coast-based boat-maker isn't yet ready to reveal its form – but we can give an impression of how the boat is taking shape.
Orders have already started flooding in for the boat, with more buyers leaning towards the aft “beach club” – a third cabin and ensuite that replaces the tender garage that, uniquely for a boat this size, can accommodate a three-seater jet-ski in its 3.5-metre-long space.
“What we’re getting, and we’re working with customers on the latest sales now, is there’s definitely more appeal to the beach club but they want the ability to sleep people back there,” Maritimo designer and marketing chief Tom Barry-Cotter said.
“So we’re developing with designers and developers now, and the design team is hard at work on it, and that will probably be one of those announcements, product update releases that we will see next year.
“Those options will be a bit of a hybrid.”
This means Maritimo is weighing up how it can offer a third option for the beach club where owners will be able to use the space socially during the day, and at night convert it to sleeping quarters for up to two people.
But back to the timber and fibreglass plug taking shape in Maritimo’s research and development hub.
There’s a false floor built over where the swim deck would be mounted, so access from the rear is directly into the aft cockpit where the hinged door is open to reveal the beach club/tender space.
Steps to either side lead to the upper level where a spacious lounge area featuring a starboard helm is taking shape.
The X50’s forward cabins are accessed via a stairwell that descends to a surprisingly spacious master suite, sitting amidships, and a forward cabin with a walkaround bed. To one side of both is a shared head, and an ensuite bathroom with enough vertical height – it must come close to three metres of it – for owners to consider installing a rain-style shower head.
Long windows to either side allow plenty of natural light to flow into the master suite.
Maritimo’s X Series, which includes the X60 that made its global debut at the 2018 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, has snared more than 60 per cent of the luxury boat-maker’s sales in the lead-up to 2020.
