Maritimo taps MTU engines for new flagship models

Rolls-Royce MTU motor yacht power to flow through select Maritimo models

Maritimo’s future flagship models will draw on high-performance inboard engine specialist MTU to provide the powerplants to drive them, the Queensland-based luxury motor yacht maker has announced.

The German engine maker, part of the Rolls-Royce Power Systems family, is represented in Australia via truck and commercial vehicle distributor Penske.

Under the terms of the deal, Penske will supply MTU engines for all Maritimo motor yachts with performance ranging from 1200hp to 1625hp – models including the new Maritimo M75 flybridge and S75 sedan, and the M600 Offshore flybridge and S600 Offshore sedan.

The engines will be supplied with ZF gearboxes, MTU control systems, and joystick controls that include functions such as position hold.

Maritimo general manager Phil Candler said the new engine supplier brought with it “incredible customer care and service”.

“The decision was very easy for us, as our companies share very similar values in the products we manufacture, in that they are of extremely high quality, highly functional & reliable,” Candler said.

The move to a purpose-built power unit also gives high-end Maritimo owners the option of real-time back-to-base monitoring of the engines’ health, helping to lower the cost of ownership.

Maritimo said the MTU engines were also continuously rated, meaning that they were able to perform consistently at 100 per cent load.

Engines will be sold via Penske’s network of 16 strategically located branches supported by remote field service locations.

“We provide full 24/7 connectivity so we are there when you need us,” Penske Australia marine (east) sales manager Dominic White said.

Maritimo said the first MTU-powered vessels would hit the water late this year, with “many more to follow in years to come”.

Current engines used in Maritimo products include Volvo Penta and Scania shaft-drive units.
