Maritimo re-engineering Elandra

Maritimo has brought the moulds inhouse and is re-engineering Elandra

Gold Coast boatbuilder Maritimo has started the process of re-engineering and simplifying the build process of Elandra after its recent buyout of the sportsyacht brand.

Maritimo CEO Garth Corbitt said the buyout of the company added yet another product line to the existing range of Maritimo motor yachts and provided additional diversification.

Elandra would be offered throughout the company’s Australasian dealer network, Corbitt said, adding that the Elandra designs had significant synergies with the Maritimo product including bi-fold doors, aft galleys, walkaround decks, a full beam master and shaft drive propulsion.

At the time of writing, Maritimo had one Elandra 53 in stock that was available for sale prior to Christmas 2016.

Maritimo’s General Manager of Operations, Phil Candler, said a complete review of the Elandra design and manufacturing process was underway to simplify the build process and introduce the economies of scale that would be a positive in the future.

He said moving forward Maritimo would identify potential Elandra customers and then conduct focus groups before embarking on future model development.

Candler said changes introduced in future models would include detailed information gleaned from customer focus groups and design input from our internal and external design team. This would also include Maritimo’s engineering design expertise already being used in their engine room, head and bathroom liners.

The hulls may well be tweaked as the Elandra boats have prop pockets and to date Maritimo and its founder Bill Barry-Cotter haven't been fans of them.

A new Elandra range will be developed once focus groups and the overall revision had been completed, Maritimo says. The moulds for the Elandra boats have been brought inhouse and back to the new R&D facility at Hope Harbour, where we saw the boats in build.

Tom Barry-Cotter is said to be working diligently on new Elandra models, concepts and the streamlined boatbuilding process for future boats.

Meantime, Maritimo, is continuing to expand its product development program and is growing its distribution network around the world.

The Maritimo fleet now covers 17 separate models across five different lines including Cruising Motor Yachts, Sedan Cruisers, Offshore Convertibles, Sports Cabriolets and Mustang Sport Yachts.
