Gold Coast and Brisbane Maritimo owners recently joined forces for a ‘pre-Christmas Maritimo Gold Coast Getaway’ which saw seven boats cruising in company between the Gold Coast and Peel Island’s Horseshoe Bay.
Organiser Ormonde Britton, of Maritimo Gold Coast, said the weekend-long getaway was a huge success.
The group gathered on Friday night at Slipping Sands on the south western side of North Stradbroke Island. A beach bonfire, sunset drinks and races involving ‘kids of all ages’ up and down the sand dunes set the scene for the weekend.
"On Saturday the flotilla took off up the Canipa Passage, a first for some of the owners, on a scenic cruise to Peel Island," said Ormonde.
"At Horseshoe Bay the group enjoyed swimming off the beach, snorkeling around the reefs and the kids got into the action being towed behind the centre console on the biscuit."
Saturday night was spent rafted up at Little Ships Club where the boaties enjoyed pre-dinner drinks and then a superb dinner.
On Sunday the group enjoyed a nice run back to Calypso Bay for lunch at the Harrigan’s Drift Inn Irish pub which featured a ‘big swing band’.
"It was a great weekend overall and a lot of fun,” said Britton. "It's great for our owners to be able to cruise in company, experience some different boating grounds together and enjoy it all in a safe and relaxed manner."
