Maritimo owner, Ed Dunn, a retired octogenarian who lives in Seattle and does most of his boating around the Pacific Northwest, knows a lot about boats and so he should after spending 70-plus years on the water.
Ed has a Maritimo 52, his second Maritimo, and he uses it as it should be used.
"We had it out for six weeks last summer and went up to the Broughton Islands, a trip of some 375 miles in total," he said. "We put about 150 hours on her.
"We have been on the water all our lives and we don't know anything else and the Maritimo is a fabulous boat."
He said four years ago they travelled for seven hours at 17 knots in the open ocean on a trip to the Queen Charlotte Islands. "That was a pretty good cruise," he said.
"We've had two different 52 Maritimo's and they have been tremendous. Bill Barry-Cotter does such a good job. The construction is influenced by open-ocean racing and it's flawless.
"I took a Maritimo from Newport Beach (California) to Seattle seven years ago and believe me if you can do that in a boat it is a real boat."
Ed said that his best memories from a lifetime of boating were raising a family on the water.
"Preparing them to be adults and working on their appreciation of mother nature are highlights," he said.
"It's such a wonderful activity and there's so many benefits. Now we have the grandkids coming out so now there are three generations, well four if you include my father who used to take me out, enjoying the water."
Maritimo USA President Dave Northrop said Ed was a typical example of the type of boaties in the Americas who buy Maritimo's.
"Our average owner puts around 350 hours a year on their boat so they are serious boaties," he said.
"It is great to see and hear someone like Ed still enjoying his time on the water at such as age.
"He says he has been blessed with good health and good balance and his attitude to live and a love of the sea is something to be admired," adds Northrop.
Maritimo has sold in excess of 150 boats in the Americas
