Maritimo expands its Gold Coast boatbuilding plant

Maritimo has expanded its boatbuilding footprint on the Gold Coast as it gears up for a big 2018

Maritimo is ending the year on a high note, after releasing new models like the Maritimo S70, building greater brand awareness off the back of events like the Maritimo Melbourne Cup display, winning the Offshore Superboat Championship again, and now expanding its footprint on the Gold Coast.

As part of its push into overseas markets, and to enable future expansion, Maritimo has purchased the commercial property adjoining its current headquarters on the Gold Coast. That property was formerly the Tournament Boats yard and then a boat and RV storage facility.

More broadly, the 15-year company now has a network of 44 dealer partners in more than 17 countries. It’s building about 30 motoryachts a year, averaging more than $2m each, mostly in the 52-70ft range.

CEO Garth Corbitt said Maritimo would sell about half the boats it builds internationally. But to cater for expected growth, it had purchased a 3.09-hectare site that borders the existing fiberglass factory's shed so it could build more boats in the years ahead.

The combined total site area now including 15 Waterways Drive and the new McPhail Road site is 4.664 hectares. With the new property purchase, the total manufacturing plant under roof is now 9314 square metres excluding office space.

"This year, we have enjoyed record success in Europe and in the USA, and our reach is extending into areas such as South-East Asia, South America and Canada" he said.

"Word is spreading that the Maritimo brand spells quality, design and style, functionality and above all sea-keeping ability.”

Corbitt says there is a healthy perception and respect for Australian boatbuilders in keeping with our rugged environment.

The success of Maritimo Racing is said to be a key point of difference for the brand, with the race bred technology inherent in the luxury cruiser range having a powerful impact on prospective buyers.

"Our growth plans are tied to both national and international markets and continually pushing the brand into new areas. We have come a long way in 15 years, but there is much more to do," Corbitt said.

In 2018, this will include the release of the new X60 sedan cruiser at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show 2017, with an aft beach club and a new massive “regency suite” option. The boat, very much pitched at overseas markets, has a AUS$2.125m base price.
