Gold Coast residents will soon be able to travel to The Spit by boat after the first stage of a four-year, $30 million master plan for the area is completed by late next year.
The Gold Coast Waterways Authority today revealed the first look at a pontoon and jetty planned for the northern end of Marine Stadium.
Other improvements to the area include works on the Moondarewa Spit foreshore and the Seaway Promenade.
“The Marine Stadium project will further open up the Spit by providing a pontoon accessible to recreational and commercial vessels, including ferries and emergency services vessels,” the authority said.
“The jetty will become a new Gold Coast attraction as a great spot to fish or enjoy beautiful Broadwater views looking south to Surfers Paradise.”
The jetty and pontoon are expected to cost around $4 million to install.
Under state government plans, the jetty will also provide opportunities for commercial ferries to operate at the top of The Spit during community events.
Other projects budgeted to be completed this year include the Muriel Henchman boat ramp redevelopment that will add more boat ramps, pontoons and parking spaces, and an initiative that will improve water quality in the Marine Stadium waterway.
