The Marine Industry Foundation (MIF) is holding its second fund raising event, this time at the Royal Perth Yacht Club on Friday November 11. The guest speaker at the luncheon is Andy Fethers. Andy is an America’s Cup sailor, World Match Racing Champion and two-time World Sailing Champion. His talk will include reflections on the 34th America’s Cup in San Francisco where he raced last summer in a giant wing masted hydrofoil reaching 48.6 knots. He will also talk about future pathways in sailing.
After a very successful event held at the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron in July 2016, the Perth event will be an excellent opportunity to build awareness of the Foundation in WA and raise funds to support the Foundation’s objectives according to MIF Director and Marina Industries Association President Andrew Chapman. MIF was established in 2015 to broaden community access to the benefits of recreational boating and to assist the marine industry to grow through supporting employment and training.
It is anticipated that MIF grants will be announced at the event. At the Sydney luncheon Sailability (Middle Harbour NSW) and Fishers with Disabilities WA Inc (Fishability) were announced as recipients of Foundation funding. Fishability has been operating in WA since 2003 and conducted 148 recreational fishing activities for 1800 people with disabilities and their support workers over the past year.
Royal Perth Yacht Club General Manager and MIF Committee member Stuart Walton said the luncheon was an important opportunity for the Perth community of recreational boaters and industry to come together and support the important objectives of the Foundation. "The luncheon will be stimulating, enjoyable and an important launch platform for the Perth boating community and industry to become familiar with the excellent objectives of the Marine Industry Foundation."
Details of the Foundation’s grants and scholarships program are available on the Foundation’s website at www.marinefoundation.org.au. Bookings for the luncheon can be made by emailing marketing@rpyc.com.au.
