Marine Entertainment Review

Car sound entertainment units don't last long in prolonged exposure to the marine environment, often just a summer or two, or one good splash and that's it. So marine equipment is now designed to resist the elements

Jensen's sounds at sea

JENSEN MSR7007 HEAD UNIT
While many marine electronics products are just existing sets that have been modified to be water-resistant, Jensen Marine applies ‘outdoor-proofing' during every step of the design process.

The start of a good system is the Head Unit - the controller, tuner, player and usually an inbuilt amplifier. Jensen Marine's MSR7007 is an AM/FM/CD stereo unit with waterproof protection suitable for heavy sea conditions (IPX5).

Most marine electronics corrode from the inside out, destroyed by the ambient moisture content in the air that enters the chassis or sockets through holes.

Jensen Marine's sealed chassis prevents moisture ingress completely, while addressing the need to keep the amplifier cool by extracting heat thermally via a heat sink.

Jensen's MSR7007 has near unlimited music; either though CDs, or the unit is MP3/WMA and iPod compatible.

Once an iPod is connected via the rear built-in pigtail, full control of the iPod's functions is transferred to the MSR7007 buttons, and the iPod can be safely stored out of harm's way. The iPod's visual readouts appear on the MSR7007's large multi-line LCD display, enabling visibility from a wide range of vantage points. For added convenience, an auxiliary connection via the front of the unit can also be purchased separately.

The MSR7007 provides a warm, clear sound with 200W (peak) output power and is wired remote-ready for MWR75 and MWR100 controls.

Installation is easy, with the MSR7007's single-DIN chassis and the rear aux-in. Pre-amp output enables the attachment of an amplifier plus external speakers for an even greater sound.

Boats can get into rough water, so for unexpected occurrences, the unit is equipped with 40-second electronic CD skip protection, zero-current memory draw and low battery warning. The latter is handy to ensure you still have power to start your boat, though a separate battery is ideal for frequent ‘motor off' listening.

Whether you just add speakers or boost the power with an additional amplifier, Jensen's MSR7007 will provide loud and clear sound.
