The Australian International Marine Export Group (AIMEX) has announced its 2011 Club Marine Australian Marine Export Awards and recognised Brisbane's P&W Marine Engineers and marine manufacturer Britton Marine as leaders in their fields.
Britton Marine, which was established in 1987, designs, manufactures and maintains military, law enforcement and commercial craft and specialised marine equipment. It has successfully established itself as a major supplier of rigid inflatable craft for the Australian and other regional navies.
It recently won tenders to supply new vessels for Australian Customs and NSW Marine Rescue. The company also maintains all NSW water police vessels and supplies and supports State Emergency Services in Queensland, Victoria, NSW, ACT and South Australia.
Britton Marine Australia was awarded Best Marine Industry Export Performance (Medium Exporter) for 2011.
P&W Marine Engineers has been Australia largest manufacturer of underwater propulsion systems for more than 30 years. Based in Brisbane, the company has grown a reputation of high-quality reliable products not just in Australia but also in Fiji, Indonesia, the USA, Singapore, Venezuela, New Zealand and Brazil.
It recently invented a method of constructing foil-shaped rudders to meet Marine Society Class regulations. Designed by naval architects, the rudders are hollow with water-tight compartments and are cast in Aluminium Bronze. This metal is light weight but also strong and exhibits high anti-corrosive properties.
The company was recognised with an award for the Best Marine Industry Export Performance.
The awards were presented at an industry function at Darling Harbour in Sydney.
